Rosalie Grubb
Born December, 2000 in Charlotte, NC
I’m Rosalie, an artist who creates colorful, childlike worlds filled with whimsy and imagination. I grew up in Charlotte, North Carolina, between a Baptist Christian father and a Jewish mother, but after traveling to Israel, I chose to embrace Judaism as my own. My journey has carried me from a Chinese immersion classroom in the South to summers in Beijing, years studying in Shanghai, and now to the vibrant streets of Venice Beach. Along the way, I’ve fallen in love with Chinese culture, embraced “cuteness” as an art form, and adopted my muse—my cat Moon Cake—who often sneaks into my work.

Unlike many artists who explore their darker sides, I create to escape mine. Growing up, I learned independence early—navigating homework in Chinese no one could help me with, leaving home for boarding school in Connecticut, and later building a life abroad in China and Israel. Each place I’ve lived has shaped me: Shanghai gave me my psychedelic, playful style, Tel Aviv deepened my sense of identity, and Venice inspires me daily with its quirky details and sunshine. My art is colorful, nostalgic, and joyful because it reflects the way I’ve learned to find light, even in heavy times. Through creatures, colors, and a touch of wonder, I invite people to remember the imagination of childhood and see the beauty in life’s small, whimsical moments.

Portfolio
I’m a full-time visual artist based in Venice, California. I graduated from New York University's Shanghai campus with a degree in Social Sciences, concentrating in International Relations and minoring in Chinese.
My artistic portfolio includes designs for Murphy Maude Interiors in Memphis, TN, the creation of a globe for Cool Globes in Chicago, IL, and commissioned pieces for clients around the world. I recently completed a 38-foot by 9-foot mural for an apartment building in Chapel Hill, NC, and showcased a selection of my work at a gallery in Venice, California.
As a recipient of a Gold Key from the National Scholastic Art and Writing Competition, I’m always excited to take on new and challenging commissions.

My Muse
Born May, 2021 in Shanghai, China

I first discovered Mooncake in a little shop tucked away in the alleyways of my Shanghai neighborhood. She’s a British Shorthair with dwarfism, and from the moment I saw her, I knew she was meant to be mine. I adopted her while studying at NYU Shanghai, and since then, she’s shared so many adventures with me, spending a semester in both Tel Aviv and New York City, and after graduation, moving with me to Venice Beach. She accompanied through lock down in Shanghai, where she became one of my muses. Together, we’ve traveled to even more places, and through it all she’s been the most perfect companion.
